Stella McCartney may very well be the daughter of Sir Paul McCartney of the Beatles and Linda McCartney, a photographer, and musician, but that is not the only reason she is famous. She has earned her own fame through her passion for fashion, among other things. She is a successful fashion designer, best known for her own label simply called Stella McCartney. That’s not all she excels in though, let’s learn a few interesting facts about this British beauty.
#1. Although she was born into a family that was already in the limelight for their own accomplishments, her parents wanted their children to lead a life as normal as possible. That is why she attended local state schools and not ultra-exclusive private schools.
#2. Fashion has been a passion of hers since the tender age of 13, which is when she designed her first jacket. Three years later, at the age of 15, she interned for renowned fashion designer Christian Lacroix. Her fashion career just kept going from strength to strength from then on and has continued to grow. Today she has her own label, which not only creates gorgeous women’s clothes but shoes, bags, and other accessories too. And let’s not forget her own perfume called Stella, and her 100 percent organic skincare range, Care. She even designed a lingerie line for Breast Cancer Awareness. She didn’t stop there, a men’s and kids’ collection, was later launched as well.
#3. Fashion is not all she’s passionate about. Her mother was an award-winning photographer and it seems the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. By being exposed to it from a young age, Stella took a liking to it and dabbed in a little photography herself. She became known for her skills and took memorable portraits of musicians and other subjects as well.
#4. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Stella is an avid animal rights activist and this has a huge effect on everything she is involved with. Being a strict vegetarian, she launched Meat Free Monday in the U.K in partnership with her dad Paul and her sister Mary. It aims to raise awareness to encourage people to preserve natural resources and improve their health. Her clothing line is also animal-friendly, where absolutely no leather or fur is used in any of her designs. Instead, materials such as vinyl, plastic, raffia, and fabric are used to make her belts, shoes, and bags. She has even written a vegetarian cookbook.
#5. She has received numerous awards. One such award was for Designer of the Year at the British Style Awards in 2007. In 2009 she was named Glamour’s Woman of the Year, two years later she received the British Fashion Council’s Red Carpet Award and was mentioned in the Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. In 2012 she was presented with an Order of the British Empire (OBE) award for excellence and service in the fashion industry.
Stella McCartney most certainly has earned her place in the world, she’s making a difference and impacting people in different spheres. She’s successful in the fashion world, she’s vocal about her environmental beliefs, and acts on those beliefs. All in all, she’s an inspiring individual and it’s no wonder she has received so many awards, and is highly admired by many. In all this, she has remained humble and has used her fame for great causes.
