For 33 years there has been an annual gathering in the Western United States at Black Rock City. The Burning Man event is held in August every year by a temporary city being erected on the playa of the Black Rock Desert in Northwest Nevada. Thousands of people from all over the world come to enjoy a dusty week of fun with friends and strangers alike to celebrate art and community. One thing that the crowds really do go all out on is the outfits. While there is a different theme every year, nothing is set in stone and there are no rules on what to wear or what not to wear. We have gathered some of the craziest (but safe) outfits from Burning Man over the years.
They told her she could be anything she wanted, so she became a mirror ball. The aim here was probably to be noticed as much as possible. The only drawback would be blinding just about everyone who looked at her. She even needed to shade her own eyes. Being in the desert means lots of sunshine. Hanging around this lady too much could have earned her partners third-degree sunburn. We give her a 10 out of 10 for originality.
We sincerely hope that no birds were harmed during the making of this headpiece. At least she used fake birds instead of real birds (that would have been awkward.) We haven’t seen this many feathers since Priscilla, Queen of the Desert was released in 1994. We’ll give her her dues though, it was very creative.
Thrift store meets steampunk meets Thunderdome… and grandma’s vacuum cleaner? Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you, the man who couldn’t decide what theme to go with, so he went with all of them. We do think though that overall look is probably meant to be like some kind of post-apocalyptic desert rebel. Actually quite clever and well made.
Well, why not? The desert city is pretty big and this is a great way to move around with relative ease. Not fancying up the bike would have been so boring, although with all that dust it will need a thorough shampooing when she gets home. We think that she is rocking the Mayan fish scale look and those boots are just super cool!
Why not take that relationship to a whole new level and get hitched at the festival. Every year there around eight to 12 weddings per day that happen at Burning Man. So it’s pretty safe to say that the wedding business is booming in Nevada during August. This couple looks so happy to be adding this dramatic flair of white and red to their special day. We wish them the best of luck.
While people come from all over the world and from all walks of life to enjoy the festival, it takes a certain kind of person to be so carefree and creative with costumes and outfits like these. If you can handle the heat of the day and the chill of the desert at night, can handle the dust of the playa and need some eccentric fun, then maybe Burning Man is for you.
