We are always our own worst critics, always quick to put ourselves down even if nobody is listening. It’s human nature to want to be better, but being too hard on ourselves can lead to a lot of problems. To find true happiness, we have to take a moment to appreciate who we are and the value we bring to the lives of others. A little self-love and praise is healthy, there is no rule in the book of life that says we can’t fall in love with ourselves. Instead of focusing on the flaws, it’s time to focus on the things that make us beautifully human. Here are some reasons to love yourself.
You are unique
There is not a single person on this planet who is exactly like you. Every fiber of your being down to the very last nucleus is unique. Our biology makes us all human, but it is your soul and thoughts that make you special, cherished, loved, and different from the rest. The quirks are the cherry on top, it’s the very thing that draws people in, something intriguing that stands out from the crowd. Instead of trying to change or bury the quirks, embrace them and love them for what they are.
It has never been written in any law or book that humans should be perfect. There is no such thing, and will never be unless it’s a robot. We were designed to make mistakes, to have our own opinions and to have an off day every now and then. This doesn’t make you any more imperfect than the rest of us. Always be you, not the airbrushed and scripted versions you think society expects you to be.
You are strong
We underestimate how resilient we actually are. Every day we are faced with challenges and hurdles we have to overcome. Some Days they may knock you off your feet, but aren’t you still standing? This just shows how strong you are. Give yourself some credit for facing these challenges head-on, even if it was done with a few tears and tissues, you still made it through. Focus on these strengths and the next time you feel down.
You are loved
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in putting ourselves down that we don’t stop to notice how much others love us. Unless you are coriander, chances are no one is avoiding you or thinking less of you. It is quite the opposite. You may not realize it but you are the sunshine in someone’s grey skies. Your friends, family members, partner, they all know how special you are and being in your company, flaws and all, makes their life a little brighter.
You are beautiful
The human body is made up of so many complex biological pathways and networks, it is hard to fathom just how beautiful and majestic we are. From our toes to our brains, our very makeup is something to be thankful for. Our feet carry us, our hearts keep us alive, and our brains make us the person we are today. This in itself is beautiful. The mole on your shoulder, the freckles, the thigh dimples, every bit of it is exquisitely perfect.
Don’t let anyone put you in a box of what they think is perfect or beautiful, their opinion doesn’t matter.
